Comer Education Campus

Rebrand Identity | Brand Collateral

About

Comer Education Campus is a large youth development nonprofit located in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side. They prepare young people for college, careers, and futures as
well-rounded, global citizens. The Campus is anchored by the state-of-the-art Gary Comer Youth Center, Gary Comer College Prep, Gary Comer Middle School, and UtmostU.

Project Goal

The Comer Education Campus encapsulated multiple community buildings within a few blocks, but donors and the wider community hadn’t yet connected the organizations as a part of a collective whole. CEC’s vision required a widespread understanding of the campus’s role to grow, make a more significant impact, and fundraise independently in the coming years. A new brand identity was needed for Commer Education Campus.

The campus grew one organization and building at a time, each with its branding. Our challenge was to create a parent brand identity that felt cohesive and inclusive of each organization.

We partnered with Prosper Strategies, a nonprofit communications firm that developed CEC’s brand strategy and messaging. We built on their fantastic work to create a new logo design and brand guidelines to best represent the Comer Education Campus and their relationship with their affiliates. We developed an Endorsed Brand Structure in which the Comer Education Campus logo is treated as a parent brand. All affiliated organizations are connected with the words ‘a partner of’ or ‘on the’ to clarify how each organization is involved in the larger vision.

Optimistic. Inviting. Empowering.
Comer’s new logo was created to emphasize the enthusiasm for youth development. The ‘C’ icon is the brand’s foundation, defining the community, campus, and Comer. The figure within the C represents the youth, their growth and development, and the heart of Comer Education Campus.
