About

The National Urban League (NUL) is a historic civil rights organization dedicated to economic empowerment to elevate living standards in historically underserved urban communities.

In 2020, NUL launched the first ‘Make Black Count’ campaign with a coalition of other civil rights organizations. This National Urban League Census Initiative ensures that everyone in the communities gets counted and directly affects their work to strengthen African American families in the future.

Project Goal

We created the social media campaign and toolkit for the 2020 Census campaign. The goal was to create awareness, share the facts and get African American households to participate online or by mail.

Using NUL brand identity elements and colors, we created a cohesive look and felt while using the different calls to action, education & statistics content. Showcasing African American voices, families, and concerns was essential in the visual element because we wanted to create a feeling of trust, togetherness, and excitement for the census.

We also created The Social Media Toolkit, a guide to social media resources, graphics, and information that can be shared with multiple partners in the Make Black Count campaign.
